Sri Lanka the finest island of its size,this beautiful country found its way into Greek,Egyptian and Indian literature,where it was known as Taprobane,Serendib or Lanka.It has been a center of Buddhist religion.Today,the country is a multi-religious and multi-ethnic nation,with more than a quarter of the population following faiths other than Buddhism,notably Hinduism, Christianity and Islam.Sri Lanka is a tourist`s paradise.Wonderful pristine beaches,lush-green hills,majestic waterfalls,corals,wild life,heritage sites,pilgrimage sites, exotic cuisine-Sri Lanka has everything that a tourist can imagine.The island of Sri Lanka lies in the Indian Ocean, to the southwest of the Bay of Bengal and to the southeast of the Arabian Sea.Sri Lanka's climate can be described as tropical, and quite hot.January,is the coolest month and May the hottest period.



The island is the home of two main traditional cultures: the Sinhalese and the Tamil.For a small island,Sri Lanka offers a truly amazing variety of attractions.Gorgeous beaches,tea plantations and ancient cities.Scuba dive, visit an elephant orphanage and a lagoon of singing fish,explore dense jungle, shrines and temples.The Kandyan dances is very famous.Sri Lanka is home to six world heritage sites:Galle,Kandy,Sigiriya, Anuradhapura,Polonnaruva,and Dambulla cave temple.Sri Lanka`s many beaches are often visited by tourists every year.The historical city of Colombo is considered as the "Commercial capitol of Sri Lanka".The precious stones can easily found here.Sri Lankans have added western influences to the customary diet such as rice and curry, pittu.The food is delicious and costs are low.
